Allan Ashby O.C.T., B.A., B.Ed., M.Ed. (Specialist Special Education)
Allan has over 30 years experience as a teacher and administrator in regular and specialized school settings in Toronto, Wellington County, and Durham Region.
Allan’s experience base as a facilitator covers the Ajax and Whitby areas of elementary and secondary schools. Allan has also been responsible for overseeing the elementary programs for the Treatment Centre and Hospital Schools (Care, Custody, and Treatment) in all of Durham Region. Here are some highlights of Allan’s career:
- Masters Degree in Education (with a major in Assessment) from University of Toronto (OISE)
- Undergraduate degree from York University Faculty of Education.
- Retired principal with the Durham District School Board with a solid background in special education.
- During his tenure with the Durham Board he was also a special education facilitator. Provided program support and advice to teachers in 10 schools.
- Worked as a team member with agencies including Durham Children’s Aid Society, Frontenac Children’s Services, Durham House, and Durham Police Services.
- College lecturer specializing in special education.
- Volunteer mentor with Teach in Ontario for two years; four international teachers
- Treatment Centre administrator for four years, Grove School – Section 23
- Past president, Council for Exceptional Children (Durham chapter #584)
- Member in good standing of the Ontario College of Teachers
